Charlotte Wilhelmine was the daughter of Grand Chancellor Carl Friedrich von Beyme (1765–1838). Through her inheritance the Trienke estate passed into family ownership. In 1840 Charlotte bought the neighbouring Drosedow estate; the estates of Steglitz, Dahlem, Schmargendorf and Ruhleben near Berlin, inherited from her father, she sold to the Prussian state domains in 1841.
Carl Friedrich von Beyme (1765–1838), the son of a regimental surgeon, was one of the most influential jurists and statesmen of Prussia: a cabinet councillor and closest confidant of Frederick William III, Grand Chancellor from 1808 to 1810, and minister for legal reform from 1817 to 1819. Only his daughter Charlotte Wilhelmine survived him; her marriage into the von Gerlach family created a link between the courtly-bourgeois reform camp and the landed nobility east of the Elbe.
