von Chambaud-Charrier

The "Neues preussisches Adels-Lexicon" describes the lords of Chambaud as an old house from Languedoc whose nobility was confirmed at the French investigation of titles and dignities in 1672. It names three lines – de Charrier, de Bavas and de la Baume – and records that three brothers of the house of Chambaud-Charrier served Prussia. The Gerlach family archive at Erlangen keeps a special collection for them: pedigrees, biographical sketches, 333 personal slips written in 1933, and the correspondence. Among those who emerge from it are Paul de Chambaud de Charrier, his son Alexandre (1704–1793), Charlotte Elisabeth Kunigunde, Major Maximilian Rudolf Theophilus, and above all Friedrich Ernst von Chambaud (d. 1814), ducal Anhalt colonel at Dessau and earlier a major in the von Natzmer infantry regiment, who was severely wounded on 6 November 1806. His children Bertha (1797–1866, married von Levetzow), Ida (1800–1830) and Adolph were inoculated against smallpox on the same day in March.
