The wedding took place on 18 May 1909; the bride, Irmgard Rosalie Ida Luise, came of the house of Stretense. Three sons and a daughter were born of the marriage (memorial volume of the Queen Cuirassiers, 1919). Berndt-Leopold von Gerlach, a cavalry captain, carried on the House of Nordhausen and later went to the Kunemus farm in South-West Africa.
