Asta was the daughter of Landrat August von Gerlach (1830–1906) and Asta von Kleist. Baron Carl von Pachelbel-Gehag (1859–1942) came from an Egerland patrician family that reached Western Pomerania by way of Wunsiedel; the suffix "Ascheraden" recalls the Livonian barons Schoultz von Ascheraden. The authority file gives his names as Karl August Clemens Friedrich Wilhelm, born 15 June 1859, died 31 January 1942 at Keffenbrink; in 1891 a first lieutenant on the Great General Staff, in 1901 a Prussian chamberlain, a knight of the Order of St John.
The Pachelbel (also Pachelbl) were a patrician family of Eger in Bohemia, recorded since 1395, who moved to Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains during the Hussite wars; Emperor Charles V ennobled them in 1528, Emperor Rudolf II granted imperial nobility with the predicate "von Gehag" in 1610. Carl von Pachelbel-Gehag, a Prussian chamberlain and cavalry captain and holder of the entailed estate of Nehringen-Keffenbrink (Western Pomerania), was raised to the Prussian baronage in 1907.
