The Raumer family came from Eschenbach in the Upper Palatinate; after the Thirty Years' War a branch moved to Dessau, where the theologian Georg Raumer (1610–1691) served as court preacher and superintendent. His son Friedrich Amadeus Gottlieb (1643–1728), a government director in Anhalt, received imperial nobility in 1693, transferred in 1708 to his nephew and adopted son. Two generations earlier lies a source that names everything: the printed funeral sermon for Georg Raumer’s son Ephraim Jonathan (1646–1676), preacher at Dessau. It gives his birthday, his parents, the universities he attended and all four of his children – and his wife Johanna Magdalena, daughter of the Anhalt chancellor Martin Milag, who in 1648 negotiated the Peace of Westphalia for Anhalt at Osnabrück and Münster. Georg Raumer had preached the chancellor’s funeral sermon in 1657, before his son married the chancellor’s daughter. When Ephraim Jonathan died of dysentery in 1676 he left a five-year-old son, Johann Georg – the very nephew to whom the imperial nobility passed in 1708. Agnes had four brothers and two sisters; from that row of siblings came three well-known nephews: the historian Friedrich von Raumer (1781–1873), the archive director Georg Wilhelm von Raumer (1800–1856) and the Prussian minister of culture Karl Otto von Raumer (1805–1859). Agnes was the mother of the four Gerlach brothers; the Agneshof farmstead near Rohrbeck probably bears her name.
