Horst von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski began his career in the Life Grenadier Regiment King Frederick William III and led a brigade from 1915 to 1918; the couple latterly lived at Wannsee outside Berlin, he a lieutenant general in retirement. Their son Franz Heinrich, born at Metz in 1896, fell on 27 September 1915 at Ripont in the Champagne, shot through the head while repelling a French attack; he lies in the military cemetery at Vouziers. His brother Friedrich was severely wounded in March 1918; the sisters were Elisabeth and Dorothea.

A noble family; its first mention and coat of arms remain to be added from the Genealogical Handbook of the Nobility.
