Elisabeth belonged to the House of Nordhausen. Her husband was a chamberlain to the emperor, marshal of the Brandenburg diet and lord of Kleinmantel, Leppin and Todtenkopf. Five sons went to war; Elard, born at Kleinmantel in 1889, a lieutenant in the 1st Brandenburg Dragoons, died on 20 January 1917 through an accident in the reserve hospital at Pinsk.
