Friedrich von WoedtkeHelene von Gerlach1891in the family tree

Helene was a daughter of Captain Leopold Friedrich von Gerlach and Elisabeth von Alvensleben, and thus the sister of Ehrengard, who had married into Trieglaff two years earlier. The two sisters therefore came into the same district of Greifenberg. Four children are documented: Karl Leopold Jakob, born 1892 at Bolkow, Jürgen Eggert Joachim Ernst, born 1898 at Woedtke, Henning, born 1900 at Woedtke, and Ehrengard, who carries her aunt's name. Henning died on 16 November 1918 in the field hospital at Osterfeld of a wound received four weeks earlier at Maubeuge, five days after the armistice.

A Pomeranian family of ancient nobility, of one stem and one coat of arms with the von Kleist; both first appear in a charter of 1263. The pedigree begins in 1389 with Joachim von Woedtke of Woedtke and Zirkwitz. Besides the seat that gave the family its name, the estates of Zirkwitz, Buslar, Sydow and Bolkow belonged to it; Woedtke itself, 547 hectares, remained in the family until 1945. Friedrich von Woedtke, a retired cavalry captain, was the senior of the house.
